Training with West Country Walling

We offer a few select training opportunities for people wishing to learn the craft of dry stone walling. Trainees are employed on a project-by-project basis and are paid on a daily rate according to their skill level and experience. It is preferable (although not essential) that trainees are self-employed.

Inexperienced trainees will start to learn about working with natural stone by providing support to the skilled craftsmen.  Over time, they will be taught how to lay stone and carefully pack the walls before moving onto the various features associated with the projects we run.

Our aim in the future is to run educational courses, offering individuals a taster experience where they learn the basic principles and can then decide on whether they wish to take their skills further.

If you are interested in learning to dry stone wall with us then please get in touch to discuss your situation and ambitions.

Just finished this repair in the rec next to my ho Just finished this repair in the rec next to my house. Was nice not to have any commute and to be able to work in a sectioned off area. Working on our own one at a time was unusual and actually a good thing. It took me back a few years when the work was simpler and slower. I felt more connected to this project than I have recently. Not that I don't enjoy all the work we do but it definitely had a different feel of a more personal achievement. It was also nice to be able to have a measure up now and then and know that I'm still up to speed 😎 we don't have much on now due to the present situation etc etc so am taking the well earned opportunity to sort some of my place out. Hope you are all well and if you are able to work look after yourselves. Much love from WCW! 😘xx #drystonewalling #walling #landscaping #building #ruralcrafts #artisan #drystone #stonemasonry #stonework #masonry #wiltshire #corsham #hometown #smileyface

Bought back to life and hung on a hand carved ash handle, with a yew wedge, by @theaxeandedgetoolco a true traditional craftsman! 😍 chuffed to be the present custodian of this untill the next hands. Speaking of which it is very sharp and I hope not to lose any digits! 😬🤞🏻 #axe #traditionaltools #axejunkies #hedgelaying #dontchopyourfingersoff
